How to connect a three-gang switch

The complexity of connecting a three-key switch is no higher than connecting one or two key lighting circuits.

By design, a 3-key switch also does not differ much from a two-key device. The difference is only in one additional contact and the third key. A triple switch is installed in the socket. A hole is made in the wall with a drill with a crown dressed to fit the size of the socket.

Before attaching the socket box, wires are pulled through its hole. The socket box is coated with a creamy solution of building gypsum and seated in the hole. The excess of the squeezed out gypsum solution is removed, and the wires in the socket are pulled up.

When installing the wiring diagram for a three-gang switch, a four-core copper cable with a cross section of 1.5 mm² must be connected to the socket. One wire is connected to a phase in the distribution box, and the other end of this wire is connected to the common contact of the triple switch.

The three remaining wires are connected to the three contacts of the switch, which are located on the opposite side of the common contact. 6 phase wires, three wires from lighting sources and three wires of a three-pole switch should come to the junction box.

Three neutral wires of lighting lamps are connected together and connected to a common neutral wire in the junction box. The three remaining phase wires are connected to the three wires coming from the contacts of the triple switch. It is convenient to make all wire connections through the Wago connecting terminals.

If the colors of the wire insulation are different, then the connection is made from the side of the lighting lamps and the switch contacts according to the order in which the lighting in the premises is turned on according to the previously marked colors. When the wires have only one color - white, then the connection is made in random order.

The required switching order of the individual keys is determined after applying voltage. If the connection diagram of the three-gang switch does not correspond to the inclusion of the lighting of the given room, then marks are made with a pencil - which lighting of the room is turned on by each key. After all the keys are numbered, turn off the mains voltage and change the order of connecting the contacts on the switch to your liking.

Remember, for safety reasons, all electrical work is carried out with the mains off. Before you connect a three-gang switch, do not forget that the switch should break the phase, not zero. This is necessary so that the wiring is not energized when the lighting is off, and for electrical safety when replacing lighting lamps.
