How to wash windows from the street. What is the best way to wash windows to make them shine and avoid streaks? How to clean hard-to-reach places

Washing windows seems like such a simple process, what could be so complicated about it!? But this is only said by those who either have never washed windows, or did it poorly and without effort. Today we will tell you how to wash your windows so that they are thoroughly cleaned and streak-free.

We will consider the process of washing windows in two blocks:

Preparation

First, you must prepare all the necessary window cleaning products. There are two ways to wash windows: manually and using a window washer. For manual washing, use regular fabrics, newspapers or special microfiber cloths. In turn, the window washer includes a handle, at the end of which there is a holder, on one side of which there is a sponge, and on the other a special rubber scraper (they can be separate objects: a separate sponge and a separate scraper). We will tell you how to wash using this and that method a little later, but for now let’s talk about preparation.

To clean windows, we definitely need detergents. There are a lot of special cleaning products for windows, you can buy them in any supermarket, and we recommend giving preference to them. If you don’t have such a product on hand, you can prepare it at home: one drop of dishwashing detergent per liter of water, or make a regular soap solution. It is also popular to wash windows with ammonia, adding it to water in a ratio of 1:10, but there is no point in this, since special window cleaning products are much better.

You can get more detailed advice from the video below.

Washing process

When everything is ready, we’ll talk about the washing process itself.

One of the main mistakes of many is that they wash the glass first, and then the profile - this is wrong. First you must wash the profile (frame) well, and only then proceed to the glass itself.

If a large amount of dirt has accumulated in the corners of the windows, then use brushes or brushes. Detergent is also used to wash the frame. First, the profile is washed from the outside, and then from the inside.

You can clearly learn about the window cleaning process from the video below.

Wash with rags

To wash windows, it is best to use special microfiber rags; they clean the windows well and efficiently, without leaving lint or streaks.

It does not matter where to apply the detergent: on a rag or on the profile/window. Apply a small amount of window cleaner and thoroughly wash the profile, then take a dry cloth and wipe the washed areas dry. Then perform the same operation with the glass.

My window washer

Washing windows with a window washer is as easy as shelling pears, but you still have to wash the profile with rags if you want to achieve perfect cleanliness. A window washer is an excellent solution for large windows, as well as for a loggia, and in cases where there is a blind part of the window. It also allows you to quickly wash windows, which is very practical.

To wash windows with a window washer, you need to use a special solution; you can either dilute it in a bucket or immediately apply it to the glass. Carefully treat the surface of the glass with a sponge, and then remove the soap solution and stains with a rubber scraper. The movements of the scraper should be from side to side. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that thanks to the scraper, after washing your windows you will not have any streaks left. By the way, a rubber scraper can also be used when washing with rags.

It is necessary to wash windows 2 times a year: in mid-spring, when the weather is warm outside, and in mid-autumn.

That's all! We wish you success in putting things in order!

Clean windows mean a well-groomed and bright home. Do you want to know how to clean your windows perfectly without spending too much time and effort? We will tell you how to solve this problem at home. For each task, we will describe the necessary materials, cleaning products and give some important tips to keep in mind.

Necessary materials

If you do not use special cleaning wipes, then you will need for washing:

  • a sponge or rag made of coarse flax (you can choose microfiber or nylon);
  • a bucket or bowl containing the cleaning solution;
  • the cleaning agent or solution itself;
  • cleaning absorbent cloth;
  • You can also use a special scraper with a silicone nozzle to remove excess moisture.

A variety of devices can be used to clean windows. Folk remedies are the most economical option, since you can find everything you need in your kitchen.

They are not always effective against heavy dirt and difficult stains (primer, cement, soot, glue, etc.), but they do an excellent job with dust and dirt, as well as various kinds of stains (from insects, rain, etc.).

The most popular means

Popular among housewives are:

  • Ammonia will clean plastic windows without leaving streaks. It will also perfectly remove nicotine film from frames. Take 100 ml of ammonia (you can use flavored alcohol) and dissolve it in a bucket of cold water. You cannot avoid unpleasant odors in the apartment, so after washing the windows, the room needs to be well ventilated.
  • Windows can be cleaned perfectly using regular 9% table vinegar. Use 4 tbsp. l. vinegar and 2 liters of cold water. Vinegar will not only clean your windows until they shine. Thanks to its pungent odor, it perfectly protects the house from insects entering from the street.

  • You can also use starch to clean stained windows. Prepare the following solution: 2 tbsp. l. Dissolve starch in 2 liters of water. The starch needs to be stirred thoroughly. Use the resulting mixture to wash the window with a sponge or piece of cloth.
  • Potato. If there are a lot of dried stains on the window, the window should be wiped with half a potato, and then simply remove the remaining dirt with a dry microfiber cloth. Stains and dirt will be removed. Then wash with clean water or water and vinegar until shiny.

If you wipe the glass with potatoes and then simply walk with a regular rag, the resulting starchy film on the window will protect it from fogging. This method can also be used for machine glass.

  • Chalk in powder form. 3 tbsp. l. This powder must be diluted in a glass of water or vodka. Rub the resulting thick paste over the surface of the window and leave to dry. Then remove the chalk from the surface with a napkin or microfiber. The vodka in the resulting paste will perfectly degrease and clean the window without streaks.
  • Onion. Fly stains can be removed from fiberglass with half an onion. Then all that remains is to rinse the surface with water and wipe with a dry cloth.
  • Table salt will allow you to clean the window from dirt no worse than special means. Dilute a few tablespoons of salt in a glass of water and wipe the window with the solution using microfiber.

  • Glycerol. You can clean the window and protect it from further contamination by using regular glycerin from the pharmacy mixed with liquid soap. Glycerin can also be diluted with water (100 grams of glycerin and 50 grams of water) and ammonia (small amount). A film is formed on the surface of the window that will protect the window from scratches and dirt.
  • Kerosene. To make windows shine, you can use kerosene. A tablespoon of kerosene should be diluted in 3 liters of water.
  • Nylon tights can be used for washing windows instead of special microfiber rags. Among other things, they will make the glass shine.

  • The window can be washed with a solution of potassium permanganate and blue, which gives the glass a bluish tint. It is important not to overdo it with the powder so that the solution is light, translucent in color.
  • Windscreen wipers. Modern supermarkets offer a variety of special glass cleaning products. They are available in the form of sprays, which are distributed over the entire surface of the window using a dispenser, powder, which must be dissolved in water, gels and pastes, which are applied to the window with a rag or sponge.

How to clean glass?

If you want to clean glass quickly and effortlessly, and also avoid streaks, use a few tips:

  • First, wipe the window with a sponge to remove dust.
  • Walk over the surface of the glass with a cloth soaked in a special solution (you can use the folk remedies listed above, or special sprays, powders, gels, pastes, wipes for cleaning glass). If your apartment has large panoramic windows or you are cleaning balcony windows, you can use a special spray bottle.

It is better to wash window glass on the balcony with a double-sided mop with a sponge and scraper. First, wipe the window with a sponge, and then remove the remaining water with a scraper with a silicone attachment.

  • Next, the product is removed from the glass surface with a special rubber scraper. For large windows, choose wide squeegees. Move from top to bottom, turning the scraper slightly to the side.
  • Then the glass must be polished. The last step is especially important if you want your windows to be streak-free and shiny. Wipe the glass dry with crumpled newspaper (you can also use a piece of suede, nylon stockings or tights, or a special napkin).

Now let's talk about strong remedies that will allow you to get rid of dried stains and dirt at home:

  • Pour 4 liters of warm water into a bucket and add 100 ml of ammonia and white vinegar, add a small amount of blue and 2 tbsp. l. starch. The resulting solution must be applied to the window with a rag or spray, then wipe the window with a napkin or sponge. A solution with ammonia also perfectly cleans glass of glue.
  • You can remove black insect stains from the surface by wiping the contaminated areas with half an onion. This method will help remove stains from the window without much effort.
  • If you need to wash a window after a fire and remove soot, first remove any remaining soot with a broom or dry cloth. After this, wash the window with water and a cleaning solution (either a special glass cleaning spray or a bathroom cleaner will do). Plastic windows can be washed from soot with chemical alcohol, solvent, gasoline and other alcohol-containing products.

  • You can clean plastic glass from foil or glue after installation using a solvent or ammonia. You can also use dish soap. It needs to be applied to a sponge and lathered well. Then apply the resulting foam to the surface of the window and wait 10 minutes. Afterwards, rinse with plain water and wash the window with a regular detergent to get rid of stains.
  • If you want your windows to shine, then a solution of 2 tbsp is perfect for this. l. vinegar diluted in a bucket of water. The windows will be washed without streaks and with the desired shine.

Take note: in order to properly remove stains on glass without damaging the surface or leaving streaks, it is better to wash windows in a circular motion from top to bottom.

Wash glass only in dry weather and not in the sun, since in this case the cleaning agent quickly dries on the surface of the window, leaving strong streaks.

How to wash the window sill and frame?

If your house has wooden frames and a window sill, then it is better to wash them with liquid soap or dishwashing detergent diluted in a bucket of water. Harsh abrasives can damage paints and are not recommended for cleaning these types of windows. Soda is also not recommended for washing wooden window sills and frames. Don't forget to treat the metal fittings with oil after washing the frame.

Plastic frames and window sill. To wash the frame and window sill, you can use:

  • an ordinary sponge or rag;
  • a toothbrush to remove dirt from crevices;
  • Hard brushes are perfect for rough window sills;
  • melamine sponge for heavily soiled plastic surfaces. Melamine sponge emits foam when in contact with water. No additional cleaning agents are required. However, melamine is toxic, so it should be used with caution and only on surfaces that do not come into contact with food.

It is better not to use a metal scraper to avoid scratching the surface. For light stains on plastic, it is better to use liquid or laundry soap. Dilute the soap in a bucket of water and wash the frame with a regular rag. As an alternative to soap, you can use another alcohol-based cleaner. It is better to do without solvents and alkalis.

If you are faced with the task of not just washing the window sill and frame, but also removing more complex stains from the surface, then special products will help you here.

Plastic frames and window sills turn yellow over time. You can achieve whiteness of plastic in the following ways:

  • Soda. To get rid of yellowness and stubborn stains on the windowsill, baking soda is perfect. To prepare the solution, use a small amount of baking soda diluted in water. The solution should be soft so as not to damage the plastic surface. If there are old stains on the surface of the plastic, you can use baking soda and 9 percent vinegar. First, pour soda onto the contaminated areas, and then walk over the surface with a sponge soaked in vinegar. Stains will be removed and the white surface will be effectively cleaned. Then we wash the frames and window sill with a regular rag and cold water.

Vinegar corrodes skin and has a strong odor, so wear gloves when cleaning and ventilate the room after cleaning.

  • Powder for whites whitens plastic perfectly. The powder must be diluted in a small amount of hot water (to form a thick mixture). The resulting paste must be applied to the surface, if necessary, left to act for 10-15 minutes, then wiped with a hard sponge and rinsed with plenty of warm water. After this, wipe the plastic surface dry with a paper napkin or towel. Instead of white laundry powder, you can use white chalk, crushed into powder, pieces of soap, or tooth powder. The algorithm of actions will be the same.

Chalk and tooth powder are more gentle abrasives, so they deal with stains more delicately.

  • Special means. Numerous special cleaning products from the store will quickly and easily help you wash plastic from stubborn stains and rust. Powder and aggressive detergents must be used with caution to avoid damaging the surface of the plastic. Laminated plastic can be washed with any cleaning product without any worries. The cleaning spray usually needs to be applied and left on the surface for a few minutes. 15 minutes after applying the product, removing stains will not be difficult. The product must be thoroughly rinsed off the surface. If necessary, the room can be ventilated.
  • You can also use it to remove greasy stains from the windowsill. degreasers for the kitchen. Domestos for the bathroom will help remove significant dirt, rust and difficult stains. Apply the product to the surface, leave it for 20 minutes, and then rinse thoroughly with water.

When using aggressive toxic products (this includes most strong stain removers), cleaning should only be done using rubber gloves and a respirator to protect your hands and respiratory tract. Ventilate the room after finishing work. After the window has dried, apply a little machine oil to the metal fittings and treat the rubber seal with silicone grease.

Use scouring powders (allowed for laminated plastic) and detergents containing benzine, thinner or acid with caution. All these means destroy the surface of the plastic.

It can be quite difficult to clean the gap under the frame, in which, as a rule, a lot of dirt and dust accumulates. You can use an old toothbrush to clean the gap. Not only will it thoroughly clean the crack, penetrating into hard-to-reach places, but it also has soft enough bristles so as not to damage the plastic.

How to clean after repair?

Dried stains from paint, primer, concrete contact, cement are not always removed with a regular damp cloth. Therefore, strong detergents are often required to clean the window sill and frame. To prevent cleaning from taking too much time, you must act in the correct order:

  1. Before starting cleaning, it is better to remove all plugs in order to wash the cracks in which a large amount of dirt accumulates after repairs.
  2. Then use a brush or a piece of dry cloth to brush off all dust from the window sill, frames and panels.
  3. Remove stains with a stiff brush, not a rag. Stains from paint, glue or cement are removed using products containing abrasives. They are applied for 15-20 minutes and then removed from the surface with plenty of water, you can add laundry soap.

To wash the primer, it must first be soaked. Alcohol or polyurethane foam is suitable for this. You can apply the same solution to the primer stain and quickly wipe it with a dry cloth. Then wash the surface with a damp cloth.

The primer can be soaked with wet rags. They need to be placed on the primer stains for a few minutes. And then remove it with special means and a sponge; it won’t require much effort. It is better to use an abrasive sponge. It won't damage the plastic.

Instead of a sponge, you can use a special scraper, positioning it at a slight angle to the surface. If there is still dirt at the stain site, it can be removed with a powder solution.

In the same way, you can try removing cement stains with a dry scraper. Then wash off any remaining dirt using special products.

If you need to clean cement stains, it is better to wait until they dry before starting to clean the window sill. The cement can first be carefully scraped off with a special scraper. You need to act carefully so as not to damage the surface of the plastic. Then wash off the residue with a special means for cleaning surfaces from cement, primer, glue and other building materials. Such means include Dopomat, Hodrupa A, Szop(also removes rust).

Heavy contamination from a plastic window sill can also be removed using a solvent (acetone, turpentine, ethyl acetate, alcohol). But they should be used as a last resort, since there is a risk of damaging the surface of the plastic.

"Mister Muscle" is a fairly effective product that just needs to be applied to the surface of the glass and wiped with a sponge. Then wash the glass clean with clean water. The product will wash dirty window sills and frames until they shine.

Table vinegar - take a high concentration vinegar solution. With its help, you can remove difficult stains from the primer, but you must work with a respirator or a paint mask. Upon completion of cleaning, the surface must be wiped with a dry cloth or paper towel.

A special cement remover will help clean the concrete contact. However, it is better to first scrape the cement off the surface of the window with a scraper while the stain is dry. Only then remove the remaining stains with a product.

Cleaning the mosquito net

To ensure that fresh, clean air enters the room in summer, and not dust and dirt from the street, wash the mosquito net in time. A darkened mosquito net is a signal to action.

All you need to clean the mesh is ammonia (or another chlorine detergent), rubber gloves, a hose with water, a tarp or thick film, a stiff brush and a microfiber cloth, or other absorbent cloth will do. It is better to wash the mesh with a hose using gentle water pressure.

Procedure:

  1. First, remove the mosquito nets from the windows and prepare them for cleaning. Place the mosquito net on a protective film or any other waterproof material (such as a tarpaulin) to avoid damage during washing.
  2. Prepare a solution with water and ammonia in a ratio of 3: 1. Mix the solution only with rubber gloves to protect the skin of your hands.
  3. Use a low-pressure stream of water to remove dirt from the window screen. Don't forget to turn it over and wash the other side. This way you will wash away the accumulated dirt and dust.
  4. Take a stiff brush and dip it into the solution. Start cleaning the mesh from top to bottom. Try to rinse your brush in the solution as often as possible.
  5. Rinse the frame thoroughly with running water.
  6. Next, hose down the mesh with clean water from top to bottom to remove any remaining dirt. Check to see if there are any stains left on the mesh. If necessary, rinse the mesh again with a hose.
  7. Shake off any remaining water on the mesh by lightly tapping the mesh on the ground.
  8. Wipe the clean mesh with a dry, absorbent cloth and leave to dry in the fresh air.

Now the clean and dry mosquito net can be returned to its place. It is better to wash it after removing it from the window so as not to stain yourself and the furniture around you.

Do not mix ammonia and bleach to wash the mesh; the solution is toxic and very dangerous to health. In summer, wipe the mesh with a damp cloth or remove dust and dirt with a vacuum cleaner at least once a week so that seasonal cleaning of the mesh does not take too much effort and time.

How to clean the outside?

Cleaning windows from the outside is quite a difficult task. If this is not so difficult for those who live on the lower floors, then for residents of higher apartments, washing balcony windows from the outside is a real problem. However, there are several ways to make the process easier.

To get started, prepare all the necessary materials:

  • sponges (it is better to choose ones that are not too hard so as not to damage the plastic or paint of wooden frames) and microfiber;
  • two buckets (for detergent and for clean warm water);
  • mop with brush (or double-sided mop with brush and scraper);
  • ladder;
  • a scraper with a rubber attachment to avoid damaging the window.

Do not use acid-based, alkali-based or other aggressive substances to clean windows. They destroy the protective film on the glass surface, which acts as a filter for direct ultraviolet rays. Alcohol-based products are more suitable. A soap solution or a solution of ammonia (1 tablespoon per 2 liters of warm water) is also perfect for washing windows from the outside.

The safest thing to do is simply remove the glass from the wooden frame or the plastic window from the grooves and calmly wash the windows at home. If this is not possible, and you live on a high floor, it is better to turn to the services of special cleaning companies.

If you decide to wash the outside windows yourself, then try to ensure maximum safety. Ask someone to cover you.

Operating procedure:

  • Use a double-sided mop for washing (a sponge on one side, a brush on the other). It is also better to use a mop with a handle whose length can be changed.
  • Clean the window with detergent and a sponge mop.
  • Remove excess moisture using a squeegee fitted with a silicone attachment (the other side of the mop).
  • Wrap a clean, dry cloth around the mop and dry the window surface until it shines.
  • Most often, windows are washed in the warm season, and in winter only from the inside.

But if you need to wash your balcony window at sub-zero temperatures outside, remove ice, you can do this using a few tips:

  • It is better to wash the balcony window first from the inside and then from the outside. Then external stains will be easier to notice and wash.
  • Wash the frames first, and then move on to cleaning the glass itself.
  • Dissolve 2 tbsp in 1 liter of water. l. salt. Apply the solution to the frosted window using a squeegee. You will see the ice begin to melt.
  • After making sure that the frost has completely disappeared, wipe the window with a dry cloth.

Precautionary rules

Window cleaning is often accompanied by accidents. To avoid falls, poisoning and other troubles during cleaning, Don't forget to follow the precautions:

  • Do not wash windows while standing on a slippery surface. No need to stand on the windowsill.
  • If you are standing on a chair, armchair, or table, they must be stable and in no case sway or squeak.
  • If you are washing the frame from the outside, make sure that someone is watching over you during this time.
  • Do not wash your windows with rough brushes, otherwise you will find inevitable scratches on your windows.
  • Do not use aggressive agents such as solvents or chlorine to clean plastic windows. They only corrode the protective layer on PVC windows and cause the plastic to turn yellow.
  • Never mix ammonia and bleach in the solution. This mixture is toxic and very harmful to health.

Using our tips, you can easily cope with any stains on the windows. We wish you good luck!

We usually clean our windows a couple of times a year. With the arrival of spring comes the time for major cleaning, and it is important to know how to wash windows without streaks so that they look perfectly transparent. What means and methods to use for this, especially on plastic windows. Today we will tell you a few secrets of perfect washing.

What mistakes you need to avoid

First of all, let's look at the list of mistakes that are most common when caring for PVC windows. They usually are as follows.

  1. Use of aggressive cleaning agents. The cleaning product for washing and windows should not contain abrasives, that is, you should not use powders - they will leave scratches on the glass and plastic profiles.
  2. Products such as alcohol, benzene or acidic solvents will cause windows to yellow over time.
  3. Avoid hard sponges with an abrasive surface, which also leave small scratches on the surface.
  4. When removing dirt from windows and sills, do not use sharp objects - screwdrivers, chisels, knives. This can lead not only to scratches, but also chips.

Everything you need to clean windows can probably be found in your home. First of all, these are soft rags, preferably cotton, linen or suede - they absorb water best. If you decide to use a sponge, make sure it is soft. The hard side is only suitable for removing heavy dirt.

Buy a special windshield wiper at a hardware store. This device will make your work much easier. If the tie has a long handle, then you won’t have to stand on the windowsill or chair once again. Give preference to a model that has a sponge on one side and a shrink on the other.

Detergents - you can buy them in the store or prepare them yourself, according to folk recipes.

Be careful when cleaning windows outside

Do not forget about precautions when washing plastic windows. There is no need to lean too far or protrude onto the outer part of the window sill, and if possible, ask someone close to you to hold you. The surface that serves as your approach to the window must be level and stable.

There are several effective and fairly simple ways to wash plastic windows so that there are no streaks left on them.

First, prepare for work. Remove all foreign objects from the windowsill and arrange the necessary tools so that they are at hand. Pour water into a basin or bucket in small quantities so that it does not splash.

To wash the outside of windows, take a separate sponge or cloth: the outside surface is much dirtier than the inside.

Please note: it is better to wash windows in calm, cloudy weather. Glass dries quickly under intense sunlight and will leave streaks.

Be sure to wear gloves when cleaning windows

The first thing to wash is the frame. Only after this you can start cleaning the glass. Sweep away all dust and wash all surfaces thoroughly.

After this, soak a cloth in the detergent solution and apply it to the surface of the glass. Clean the window, carefully pushing the dirt downwards. Don't forget that most of the dirt is in the joints of the frame and glass. Wash the outer surface of the plastic window with a long-handled brush.

The final stage is a final wash. Here you will need a tie. Run it along the glass from the very top at an angle of 20-30 degrees, moving strictly horizontally. At the same time, overlap the washed area by a couple of centimeters each time. After each use, wipe the wiper blade dry to avoid streaks.

Washing plastic windows has some features.

  1. Don’t be afraid to wash a plastic window with a special coating. The spraying is applied on the inside of the glass, you will not damage it.
  2. Metal fittings, rubber seals and drainage holes require maintenance. After the window has dried, lubricate the fittings with machine oil and coat the rubber seal with silicone grease.
  3. Keep drainage systems clean and use special care products for plastic windows. Otherwise, in winter the windows will fog up and freeze.

We use special sprays and detergents

This method is ideal if your windows are small and not very dirty. At any hardware store or household chemicals department, purchase window cleaner in a container with a spray nozzle. You will also need:

  • soft cloth;
  • paper (newspaper);
  • basin or bucket for water;
  • household gloves.

Use only very soft sponges that do not leave scratches.

  1. All work must be carried out with gloves, since detergents have a harmful effect on the skin of the hands. Fill a bucket with warm water and soak a cloth in it. Squeeze until it remains damp.
  2. Wipe off dirt and dust from the frame and window sill. Spread the detergent in a zigzag motion over the entire window. Plastic windows need to be washed first outside and then inside.
  3. Use a clean cotton cloth to clean the window, wiping it in a circular motion. After washing is complete, wipe the window with crumpled paper, polishing thoroughly to make it shine.
  4. This method is also suitable if you have large windows or they are located quite high. This is where a long-handled zip tie will come to your aid.
  5. Use a steam cleaner to clean windows. This is not at all dangerous for frames and glass, because manufacturers supply their devices with special nozzles in which the nozzles are located transversely. Bring the nozzle to the surface gradually, starting from a distance of 30 cm. Remains of steam and stains can be easily removed with a rubber scraper.

Window cleaner can be replaced with any other, for example, dishwashing detergent. Usually 7 drops per 2 liters of water are enough to clean a window. Or you can make such a product yourself.

A cleaning solution that will clean a plastic window to a shine can be prepared from almost anything you have on hand. Here are some simple recipes:

  • 1 tablespoon of starch per 1 liter of water;
  • 50 g of bleach per 1 liter of water;
  • 1 glass of vinegar per 1 liter of water;
  • 1 tablespoon of ammonia per 2 liters of water;
  • 1 tablespoon of ammonia per 1 liter of water.

There is another method that, although quite labor-intensive, does an excellent job of removing stains on glass. Crush the chalk and dissolve it in water in a ratio of 2-3 tablespoons per 1 glass, respectively. Wipe the glass with this solution and leave it to dry, and then rub it with newspaper or paper.

Use a steam cleaner with special attachments when washing plastic windows.

Our grandmothers also used a soap solution to wash windows, diluting grated laundry soap in water. It can also be used for plastic glasses, especially since this is the most accessible and economical method. But compared to previous recipes, and even more so with modern detergents, it will be more difficult to wash off stains and drips from the soap solution from the glass.

Here are some more tips on how to use folk remedies to keep your windows clean.

  1. After the windows are washed, wipe them with a vinegar solution. Its smell drives away flies, and thus the glass will remain clean.
  2. To prevent windows from freezing in winter, apply 2 tablespoons of table salt solution to the glass. for 1 glass of water.
  3. If small cracks appear on the glass, cover them with colorless varnish on the outside.
  4. To keep the window clean longer, wipe it with a mixture of 70 g of glycerin, 30 g of water and a little ammonia. After drying, a protective film will remain on the glass.
  5. For a particularly bright shine, plastic window glass can be given a greenish or blue tint. To do this, rub them with a solution of copper sulfate (1 teaspoon per 1 liter of water), or use dry ultramarine.

What will help you with cleaning

Removing traces of tape

This adhesive tape leaves behind marks that are difficult to get rid of. But we know a few simple ways that will help you.

  1. Glue pieces of new tape to the traces of the old tape and immediately tear it off sharply. If you do not achieve the desired effect the first time, repeat several more times.
  2. Use any oil: vegetable, sunflower, mint, citrus or tea tree oil. Drop the oil onto a sponge and apply it to the part of the glass where frozen traces of the tape remain. Leave for 10 minutes, during which time the oil will soak into the glue, it will swell and come off easily. After this, wipe the cleaned area with a soft cloth.
  3. Medical alcohol is an excellent solvent for the adhesive base. Apply it to a cotton swab and wipe the areas with traces of tape. Try this method on a small area first. The fact is that different types of plastic from which windows are made react in their own way to the effects of alcohol-containing substances.

And in order to remove yellow plaque from PVC window frames, use a solution of baking soda. This product is good at removing stains from plastic.

  • wash the windows on a cloudy day so that the glass does not dry out so quickly and you have time to wipe the surface before rainbow stains appear on it;
  • First of all, clean the frame, then only the glass unit;
  • apply the detergent evenly and in one direction, circular movements create streaks;
  • For glass, it is better to take special alcohol solutions of detergents.

For good quality cleaning, you should follow the correct sequence of actions. If the window was recently installed, you need to peel off all the film that protected the frame during transportation.

It is necessary to peel off all the film that was used when transporting the glass unit.

Wash the plastic from dust and dirt with a regular soap solution. If there are individual areas of severe contamination, they are treated with special means. Shallow scratches can be removed by applying polish. However, not all products can be used to clean plastic windows.

Important! Remember that you cannot use:

  • abrasive powder products will leave scratches on the surface, creating an untidy appearance of the plastic structure;
  • acid and solvent can change the color of the panel, so they should be used with caution.

Proper care of plastic frames and double-glazed windows

Durability of use is due to proper care. This is especially true in the winter, so you need to know how to care for plastic windows in winter.

A hex wrench is used to adjust plastic windows.

In order to prepare a window for winter, you will need tools and equipment. These include:

  • rags and napkins;
  • soft brush;
  • hexagon;
  • seal lubricant;
  • machine oil.

Sequence of work

First of all, it is necessary to wash the windows from dirt and dust accumulated during the spring-summer period. In this case, soft rags and napkins, as well as non-abrasive detergents, are used. Heavy stains should not be removed using a knife or powdered cleaning agents.. Before you start cleaning the windows, you should brush off the dust.

Dirt accumulated over the summer can make it difficult to open and close the window.

After this, you need to start adjusting the fittings. This can be done using a hexagon. To avoid cold penetration into the room in winter, you need to set the clamps on the sashes to winter mode. This way, the fit of the window frame will be stronger.

Switching the window to winter mode ensures a tighter fit of the frame

It is important to lubricate the fittings with oil. After applying it to the parts, you need to open and close the sash several times, this will help the oil to distribute. This procedure should be repeated throughout the winter, the main thing is not to do this in severe frosts.

Window mechanisms need to be lubricated several times a season.

The seal also requires attention. Rubber products wear out over time and no longer fit tightly, which affects the tightness of the window. You can wash the gum directly on the window or by removing it. The procedure must be carried out using detergent, and then be sure to wipe dry. The process is completed by applying silicone rubber sealant.

Silicone grease prevents rapid wear of the rubber seal

If you see that a window is fogging up in winter or condensation is collecting, then you need to contact a specialist. They will check the condition of the rubber seal and replace it if it is worn. It is important to replace parts on time, this will help extend the life of the window.

Double-glazed window maintenance

If a plastic window is installed correctly, the glass unit will last approximately 40 years. When installing, make sure that the windows are covered with a special protective film, which will protect them from scratches during transportation and installation. Such windows do not need to be painted or sealed for the winter, but they still need to be washed at least twice a year. You should not do this at low temperatures, as the glass may burst if it comes into contact with water.

Glass can be washed with soapy water. Do not use abrasive powders or brushes that scratch the glass surface.

Window sill care

The window sill deserves special attention. This is especially true for those who like to decorate their apartment with indoor plants. Water from watering flowers, falling on the windowsill, forms yellow circles over time. These stains are very difficult to remove, and sometimes simply impossible, so it is worth using a special self-adhesive film on the windowsill, which comes in white or another color, as well as trays for indoor plants.

The window sill is protected from moisture using a special film

The texture of the window sill may differ from one manufacturer to another. They can be smooth, porous or rough. When selling, the consultant usually talks about what kind of material was used for the window sill and how to wash off the dirt. However, some features should be taken into account, for example, a rough window sill can be cleaned using a stiff brush, but in no case should you use a scraper or knife.

Slope care

Slopes also need maintenance, but the means for this directly depend on the materials from which they are made. If they are made of plastic, they will not require special care. They are easy to wash and clean from dust and dirt. A special feature is the need to replace the sealant, which several years after installation is completely removed and replaced with a new one.

After several years of use, the sealant must be replaced

If the slope is made of plasterboard, then it is covered with paint, which can be washed and, if necessary, updated. When using cork or bamboo, it is enough to systematically wipe them with a damp cloth to remove dust.

Plastered slopes should not be washed, since they are not resistant to moisture; they can be wiped with a damp or dry cloth. Acrylic sealant should be used at joints, and the surface should be painted in a timely manner.

In fact, windows are the eyes of the home in which we live. The cleaner and neater they are, the more light will penetrate into the house, the more beautiful it will look. It is important to know how to properly wash windows so that there are no streaks left on them, and any dirt is completely eliminated.

"Grandma's" method against mild stains

If you live away from large businesses and busy roads, then you're in luck. Your lungs and windows will not become covered with a greasy film as a result of smog. Cleaning the windows well in such a situation is not difficult.

Usually windows are washed one at a time. We finished with one, and only then moved on to the other. It is easiest to clean the inside of the window, since it is less dirty and is easy to reach. Here is the sequence of actions on how to wash windows in any ordinary house or apartment:

  • First you need to take a bucket or basin, pour warm water into it and dilute a little powder or soap.
  • The window must be washed with an ordinary soft cloth, thoroughly wiping off dirt, traces of flies, thoroughly wiping the frame, handles, and sashes.
  • Rinse the windows with clean water using another clean cloth.
  • To absorb excess moisture and prevent streaks, the window must be thoroughly rubbed with newspaper, having previously crumpled it tightly. This procedure helps to achieve impeccable cleanliness and shine.

This is a rather old, but quite effective method, which was used during the Soviet era. Since then, newspapers have not changed a bit, and still clean glass without leaving streaks.

For minor stains, there is another, modern and simple way to wash the windows in your apartment. To do this, you need to know that there are window wipes and special detergents. The instructions on the label will help you use them correctly.

Instead of a rag, you can take a special window squeegee, which comes with a sponge and a rubber scraper. Then you will very quickly wet the glass with foam and immediately wipe off this foam along with the dirt. This method is often shown in videos.

What to do if the windows are very dirty

Please note that it is impossible to bring windows to a heavily soiled state. Firstly, this causes them to deteriorate, and secondly, the time required to wash them increases; thirdly, a more effective product is required to wipe the window without streaks and additional effort.

Serious work awaits all housewives in winter. In our region, the winter period is accompanied by frosts and a lot of precipitation, so practically no one wipes the windows on the street side in winter. During this time, they manage to become covered with a layer of dirt and soot. Let's find out how to properly wash windows in this situation.

The first step is to bring the frames, moldings, and glazing beads into a clean appearance. They are washed with a regular sponge using any detergent. In order not to constantly run to the bath and wet the sponge, water is collected in a small container, for example, a basin.

After the frame is finished, you can wash the glass part itself. For the glass, prepare new warm water, into which we pour a product like “Mr. Muscle” or liquid soap. The water is foamed and applied to the window using a sponge or a special mop.

If the dirt is heavy, then you need to wait a little (2-3 minutes) for the dirt to soak.

You can pour the soap solution into a bottle and quickly spray it over the surface with a spray bottle or use a special liquid product. Today, it is quite unusual to wash anything without such products. Some of them act instantly, while others will need to be applied several times to avoid dirty streaks and clean the glass well.

In the next step, you should use a rag (sponge) soaked in clean water or a mop with a scraper. It is necessary to thoroughly rinse off the dirty foam.

Finally, the glass and frame are completely wiped with a clean and dry microfiber cloth or just a soft, lint-free cloth. It helps get rid of possible stains and remove remaining moisture.

A few secrets and tricks

There are little secrets that help you avoid streaks on windows and clean quickly and efficiently.

  • Wash your windows on a damp or cloudy day, this will allow the water and liquid detergent to dry longer, and you won't have to wet the sponge again.
  • If you want to achieve maximum transparency and shine of the glass, then you need to wash it with the addition of ammonia. This will remove all greasy stains on both frames and glass.
  • To wash a painted wooden frame, it is best to use liquid soap.
  • If you use a mop or scraper, move it from top to bottom and at a slight angle so that all the liquid flows down.

Perhaps someone will be interested in how to wash windows using non-standard methods. Let's look at several of these methods.

  • You need to take ground chalk and mix it with vodka. Enough vodka is added to form a white mixture, similar to liquid sour cream. This mixture is used to quickly and shine the window.
  • To clean the marks left by flies, use fresh onions. It is cut in half and rubbed onto glass. After this, everything is washed off with water.
  • If you add starch to the water (a tablespoon per liter), then the shine of the glass is guaranteed.
  • When you wash off the foam with clean water, you can add a little vinegar to it. This will help repel flies so they won't hang around the window.

You can make a table showing the features of some funds.

Many of us have a tradition of washing windows twice a year: in the fall before the onset of frost and in the spring after it. However, it would be a good idea to wipe the glass much more often. After all, does it really take a lot of effort to spray from a spray bottle and make a couple of hand movements?
